How Life After Alaska Works — and How We Keep the Lights On
A plain account of what this site is, how it's paid for, and the lines we don't cross.
What this site is
Life After Alaska is a free guide for people weighing one of the biggest decisions of their lives: leaving Alaska for the Lower 48. We are not a moving company, and we don't sell you anything.
Our job is to lay out the real trade-offs, including cost of living, climate, jobs, taxes, healthcare, logistics, and the emotional side of leaving, so you can decide with clear eyes.
How we're paid
A guide like this takes real work to research, write and keep current. We cover those costs in two ways: through the mover-search tool on this site, and through clearly labeled advertising and partner listings.
When you request moving quotes or click a labeled partner, we may earn a referral fee. It never changes what we recommend, and it costs you nothing extra.
Our promise on advertisers
We don't take just anyone. Before a mover or service provider appears on this site, we do our own research: licensing and USDOT/FMCSA records, insurance, complaint history, reviews across multiple platforms, and how they actually treat customers.
If a company doesn't meet that bar, it doesn't get listed, no matter what it would pay. We want the options you see here to be the best ones available for an Alaska-to-Lower-48 move, not just the ones with the biggest budget. You can also check any mover yourself with our Mover Safety Center.
What we won't do
- We won't write a glowing section about a company because it paid us.
- We won't hide which listings are sponsored.
- We won't pressure you to move. Plenty of people read this guide and decide to stay. That's a good outcome too.
More on how we research and update guides is in our editorial standards.
