Our Editorial Standards
How we research, source and update every guide.
Primary sources first
Every guide ends with a Sources list linking to primary sources: government agencies such as the Alaska PFD Division, Alaska DMV, FMCSA, Canada Border Services Agency, CFIA, USDA APHIS and state DMVs, and operators such as the Alaska Marine Highway System and ocean freight carriers. We don't cite anonymous forums as fact.
No invented numbers
We don't publish fabricated statistics, prices, reviews, testimonials or experts. Where we show cost ranges, they're labeled as rough estimates and reviewed regularly. When a figure depends on a date, rule or schedule that changes, we say so and point you to the official source.
Review dates
Each guide shows a "Last reviewed" date. Time-sensitive facts, such as border rules, PFD dates and ferry schedules, are flagged internally for re-checking on every review.
Not legal, tax or immigration advice
Our guides are general information. For decisions about residency, taxes, firearms or immigration, confirm with the agency involved or a licensed professional.
Referrals are separate from editorial
Life After Alaska is a referral service. When you request quotes, we may share your information with independently licensed movers and may be compensated for referrals. Compensation never changes what our guides say. We don't rank or endorse movers in our editorial content.
